Providing legal support to import mice susceptible to CoVID-19 from Japan for use in vaccine development studies
Upon request of Russian institutions studying SARS-CoV-2, our client supplied mice modified to be susceptible to CoVID-19.
Rosselkhoznadzor, the Russian agricultural safety watchdog, considered the animal as potential disease carriers and denied the importation.
The disrupted supply prevented the antiviral studies from being completed while it would take considerable time to produce the required number of mice inside Russia.
The regulator issued an importation permit upon production of documents showing that the mice were biologically safe and disclosing the peculiarities of the quality management system used by Japanese veterinary agencies in respect of laboratory animal breeding.
Russian vaccine researchers and developers became able to carry out pre-studies of the Sputnik V vaccine with just a short delay to obtain the required information on its performance and safety.
