Andrey Kozlov, RussianLegal’s Managing Partner, shared his opinion on the stagnating draft law on winemaking with Vedomosti.
As part of the government’s efforts to support the national wine makers, the concept of “Russian wine” was supposed to be defined in the law. However, that plan was rejected by the Presidential State Legal Directorate (SLD) as the term would contradict certain regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).
Mr Kozlov believes Russia is able to amend the EEU legislation to adapt it for the purposes of the draft law. However, that would take some time, so what the Russian legislators could do now is only finalise the draft law in accordance with the SLD’s opinion.
